for Alderperson 5th Ward
Deanna E. Carbajar
Deanna Carbajar is a longtime Berwyn resident and proud homeowner who became interested in running for office when she and her neighbors felt unheard from her current Alderman regarding issues impacting the safety of her neighborhood. This led her to seek her own solutions by engaging city department heads and other elected officials to get results.

She believes that a commitment to public safety and continuing public engagement are the two important things that set her apart from her Alderman. She recognizes the importance of creating safe neighborhoods for all residents, particularly the children in the ward. One of her key initiatives led her to work on a program seeking to expand the safe passage crossing guard routes at schools near her home to ensure that children have more options to cross busy streets. The program has so far yielded a 30% increase in crossing guards in our school zones and is still on-going.
Deanna is committed to working with local and Cook County leaders to improve traffic conditions on Ridgeland Avenue in the vicinity of Havlicek School.
